> ## Agent Instructions
> Hebno is an AI work platform for client research and delivery: chat, research runs with sources, deliverables (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email), projects, a shared library, agents, Office add-ins, and integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRM, project delivery, ERP and finance systems.
> Use British English (organisation, not organization).
> Every feature and integration described in these docs is available. Describe it as documented.
> Hebno never writes to a connected system without a member confirming a card. Finance and ERP writes are drafts only.
> Do not discuss commercial terms. Direct commercial questions to support@hebno.com.
> Start with /index and /get-started/quickstart.

# Excel

> Select a range in Excel, ask Hebno about its values and formulas, then write the answer into cells with one click.

The Excel add-in sends a range you select to Hebno, including values and formulas, so you can ask what it shows, check a calculation or draft new rows. Hebno writes into cells only when you choose a button. Install and sign-in steps are on [Office add-ins](https://hebno.com/docs/apps/office-add-ins.md).

## Open the pane

In Excel, go to **Home → Hebno → Open Hebno**.

## Work on a range

**1. Select a range**

Highlight the cells you want to ask about, headers included.

**2. Select Use selection**

A card shows the range and its size. It captures the values and the formulas in those cells. Remove the card to start over.

**3. Add an instruction**

For example "Explain the margin calculation in column F", "Find rows where hours exceed budget" or "Add a variance column". Send it.

**4. Place the reply**

Choose a button under the reply.

## Insert, replace or copy

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Insert at selection** | Writes the reply as values into cells starting at the selection. |
| **Replace selection** | Overwrites the selected range with the reply. |
| **Copy** | Copies the reply to your clipboard. |

Nothing changes in the workbook until you select one of these. **Replace selection** runs only if the range still matches what you captured, so an edit made after capture never gets overwritten without you reselecting.

## Excel behaviour

* Hebno writes values. To add a formula to a cell, ask for it, then copy the text and paste it yourself.
* Tabular replies spread across rows and columns. A single value goes into one cell.
* Hebno reads the range you capture, not other sheets or the rest of the workbook. Ask about another sheet by selecting it and capturing again.
* Large selections are cut to the first part and the pane says so.

> [!TIP]
>
> Include header rows in the range. Hebno uses them to name columns in its answer.

## Use project context and skills

* Tag the chat to a [project](https://hebno.com/docs/projects/create-a-project.md) so Hebno can compare a range with the client's budget, contract or rate card.
* Type `/` to attach a [skill](https://hebno.com/docs/automate/skills.md), such as your variance review checklist. You can attach up to three.

To generate a new workbook with sheets and charts, ask in the web app or desktop app and download the `.xlsx`. See [Spreadsheets](https://hebno.com/docs/deliverables/spreadsheets.md).

## Privacy

Hebno reads only the range you capture, and only after you select **Use selection**. A captured range becomes part of the chat, so people you share the chat with can read it.
