> ## Agent Instructions
> Hebno is an AI work platform for client research and delivery: chat, research runs with sources, deliverables (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email), projects, a shared library, agents, Office add-ins, and integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRM, project delivery, ERP and finance systems.
> Use British English (organisation, not organization).
> Every feature and integration described in these docs is available. Describe it as documented.
> Hebno never writes to a connected system without a member confirming a card. Finance and ERP writes are drafts only.

# Spreadsheets

> Ask for an Excel workbook in chat, edit cells in the side pane, add formulas and charts, and save it to a project or linked folder.

Hebno builds Excel workbooks from the figures in a chat, a project file or a connected system, and opens them in the side pane where you can edit cells, ask for changes and save the result as `.xlsx`.

## Ask for a workbook

Describe the workbook: "Build a resourcing plan from the staffing notes", "Put last quarter's utilisation by team into a workbook with a chart", "Turn the attached quote into a cost model". Hebno names the file, builds the sheets, and opens it in the side pane. When the figures need research, it runs [research](https://hebno.com/docs/research/research-runs.md) first.

A workbook can have up to 12 sheets. Each sheet can contain up to 20 blocks, which are tables or charts. Tab names run to 31 characters.

## What a sheet contains

**Tables** have a header row and up to 30 columns and 2,000 rows. Columns have a unit so figures display correctly in Excel:

| Unit | Shows as |
| - | - |
| Text | Plain text |
| Currency | Money, with the currency code you ask for |
| Currency per hour | Rates |
| Percent | A percentage |
| Hours, days | Time values |
| Count, number | Plain numbers |
| Score, rating | Scores and ratings |
| Date | A date |

**Formulas** are written as Excel formulas, so totals, margins, utilisation and variance recalculate when a cell changes. Ask for them directly: "add a total row", "calculate margin as revenue minus cost over revenue", "add a column for variance to budget".

**Charts** can be bar, line, area or pie, with up to 12 series. Ask for a chart by what it shows: "chart revenue by month as a line", "add a pie of spend by supplier".

## Edit in the pane

The workbook renders in the side pane. Switch sheets from the tabs at the bottom.

* **Edit cells.** Select a cell and type. Formulas recalculate as you work, and charts redraw from the new values.
* **Ask for changes.** Describe the change in chat: "add a sheet for assumptions", "sort the table by margin", "change the hourly rate to 145 for the senior team". Hebno updates the same file and shows the new version. Plain edits do not start a research run.
* **Add another file.** Ask for another workbook when you want a second file. If it is unclear whether you want a new one, you are asked whether to update the current one or start a new one.

When a reply changes the workbook, the turn ends with a **Workbook saved** line.

## Open an existing workbook

Attach a `.xlsx` file to a message, or drop it on the pane. It opens as a working copy you can edit and ask about. Hebno reads the sheets, formulas and values to answer questions such as "which projects are below target margin".

If you work in Excel itself, the [Excel add-in](https://hebno.com/docs/apps/excel.md) captures a selected range and lets you insert Hebno's answer into cells.

## Save and download

Use **Save** in the pane toolbar to file the workbook in a project, or **Download** for a local `.xlsx`. Saving again updates the same file. You can also save to a project's linked SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or Box folder. See [Save and export](https://hebno.com/docs/deliverables/save-and-export.md).
