> ## Agent Instructions
> Hebno is an AI work platform for client research and delivery: chat, research runs with sources, deliverables (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email), projects, a shared library, agents, Office add-ins, and integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRM, project delivery, ERP and finance systems.
> Use British English (organisation, not organization).
> Every feature and integration described in these docs is available. Describe it as documented.
> Hebno never writes to a connected system without a member confirming a card. Finance and ERP writes are drafts only.
> Do not discuss commercial terms. Direct commercial questions to support@hebno.com.
> Start with /index and /get-started/quickstart.

# Confluence

> Search Confluence spaces, pages and attachments from Hebno, link a space to a project, and publish a page or add a comment after you confirm.

The Confluence integration makes your firm's internal documentation available in client work. Ask what the delivery playbook says about steering committees, pull a methodology page into a deck, or publish a finished document as a page in the engagement space. Hebno cites each page it reads, and writes to Confluence only after you confirm.

## At a glance

| | |
| - | - |
| **Connection** | Personal connection. Each member connects their own Atlassian account and chooses the Confluence site. |
| **Default access** | Read and write. |
| **Attach** | Pages and page attachments from spaces you can open |
| **Search** | Hebno searches Confluence with CQL when a request mentions internal documentation, a methodology, a playbook or a space |
| **Link** | A project links to one Confluence space |
| **Write** | Create a page in a space from a document deliverable, add a comment to a page. Every write needs a person to confirm. |

## Before you start

You need:

* A Confluence Cloud site, for example `https://northwind.atlassian.net/wiki`.
* Permission in Confluence to view the spaces you want to use. To publish, you also need permission to add pages in that space. Confluence enforces your permissions on every request.
* If your Atlassian organisation restricts third-party apps, an Atlassian organisation admin may need to approve the Hebno app first.

You are asked to approve these permissions when you connect:

| Scope | Why Hebno needs it |
| - | - |
| `read:confluence-space.summary` | Lists the spaces you can open |
| `read:confluence-content.all` | Reads pages, page bodies and attachments |
| `search:confluence` | Runs CQL searches across spaces |
| `read:confluence-user` | Shows page authors and last editors in sources |
| `write:confluence-content` | Creates a page when you confirm |
| `read:comment:confluence` | Reads page comments |
| `write:comment:confluence` | Adds a comment when you confirm |
| `offline_access` | Renews access so you are not asked to sign in again |

## Connect Confluence

**1. Check the integration is allowed**

An owner or admin controls this under **Admin → Connectors → Catalogue**. If **Confluence** shows **Blocked**, ask an admin to set it to **Allow**.

**2. Start the connection**

Open **Settings → Connections**, find **Confluence** under **Knowledge** and select **Connect**. You can also select **Connect** on the prompt that appears in chat the first time you use Confluence.

**3. Approve access in Atlassian**

Sign in to Atlassian, choose the site Hebno should use and select **Accept**. Hebno returns you to the app with a **Confluence connected** message.

If your account belongs to several Atlassian sites, you are asked which one to use. Select **Reconnect** to change site. Admins can revoke any member's connection from **Admin → Connectors → Connections**.

## What Hebno reads

The spaces your organisation selects are stored in the [knowledge index](https://hebno.com/docs/get-started/how-hebno-works.md) and searched by meaning, with permissions inherited from Confluence. Opening a specific page reads it as it is now, with your account. Only the excerpts a reply used are stored with the conversation as its sources.

| Confluence object | Fields Hebno uses | Typical questions |
| - | - | - |
| **Space** | Name, key, description | "Which spaces do we have for client delivery?" |
| **Page** | Title, space, body text, author, last updated, version, labels | "What does our discovery playbook say about stakeholder interviews?" |
| **Attachment** | File name, type and text of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF and text files (25 MB or smaller) | "Summarise the attached risk register on the Contoso Retail kickoff page." |
| **Comment** | Footer and inline comments on a page | "What open questions are in the comments on the pricing assumptions page?" |
| **Search result** | Pages that match a CQL query, with a relevant excerpt | "Find our pages on change control." |

Hebno builds the CQL query from your request, for example text matches limited to a space or label. You can also type CQL in your message, such as `space = "DELIV" AND label = "playbook"`, and Hebno runs it as written.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Excerpts a reply uses become part of the conversation. Anyone you share the conversation with can read them, even if they cannot open the page in Confluence.

## What Hebno writes

Every write appears first as a confirmation card. You can change any field before you select **Confirm**.

| Action | Confluence object | Fields on the card |
| - | - | - |
| **Create a page** | Page | Space, parent page, title, body (from a document deliverable) |
| **Add a comment** | Footer comment on a page | Page, comment text |

A Confluence change pending confirmation. Nothing is written until you confirm.

A created page starts with the content of the document deliverable, with headings, lists and tables preserved. Hebno never edits or deletes existing pages, changes page restrictions or space permissions, or removes comments.

The page shows you as its author in Confluence, because Hebno writes with your own account.

## Link a project to a space

Linking marks which Confluence space contains a project's documentation, so you can ask "what do we have on this?" without naming the space.

1. Open the project and select **Brain**.
2. Under **Linked records**, select **Link record**, then **Confluence**.
3. Search by space name or key, and select the space.

In chats tagged to the project, Hebno searches the linked space first, and page cards default to it as the target space. See [Linked records](https://hebno.com/docs/projects/linked-records.md).

## Use Confluence in chat

* **Attach**: open the **+** menu, choose **Sources → Confluence**, and pick a space, a page or an attachment. Or type `/` and choose **Confluence**.

* **Ask**: name the topic, page or space in your request. For example:

  > What does our delivery playbook say about running a steering committee? Cite the pages.

  > Pull the discovery interview guide from Confluence and adapt it for the Contoso Retail store managers.

  > Publish this findings document as a page under Contoso Retail in the Delivery space.

* **Research runs** show a **Reviewing Confluence** step, with a chip for each page Hebno read.

* **Agents** can read Confluence on a schedule. Writes an agent proposes appear in [agent approvals](https://hebno.com/docs/automate/agent-approvals.md) for review.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Fix |
| - | - |
| Sign-in completes but Hebno finds no spaces | You chose a site without Confluence, or your account has no space access. Reconnect and choose the right site. |
| A page you expect is missing | Your Confluence permissions do not include it. Ask a space admin for access. |
| **Create a page** is rejected | You need permission to add pages in that space. Choose another space or ask a space admin. |
| Hebno cannot read an attachment | The file is larger than 25 MB or is of a type that cannot be read as text. Open it in Confluence. |
| Search returns older pages first | Add a space, label or date to your request so the CQL query narrows the results. |
| You are asked to sign in again | Atlassian ended the session. Select **Reconnect** under **Settings → Connections**. |
