# LinkedIn Ads

> Read LinkedIn ad accounts, campaign groups, campaigns, creatives and analytics in Hebno. Hebno reads only and never changes campaigns.

The LinkedIn Ads integration brings B2B advertising results into your client work. Ask how Contoso's supplier recruitment campaign performed in October, which job functions clicked most, or what each lead cost, and Hebno answers from LinkedIn Campaign Manager with each ad account and campaign cited. Hebno reads LinkedIn Ads with your own access and never changes campaigns, budgets or creatives.

## At a glance

| | |
| - | - |
| **Connection** | Personal connection. Each member connects their own LinkedIn account. |
| **Default access** | Read only |
| **Attach** | Ad accounts, campaign groups, campaigns |
| **Search** | Hebno searches LinkedIn Ads when a request mentions LinkedIn campaigns, Sponsored Content, campaign groups, leads, impressions, clicks or spend |
| **Link** | A project links to a LinkedIn ad account and, optionally, to campaign groups |
| **Write** | None. Hebno reads only. |

## Before you start

You need:

* A LinkedIn account with a role on the ad accounts you want to read. Any role works, and **Viewer** is enough. An account manager adds you in Campaign Manager under **Manage access** in the ad account's settings.
* An allowed integration. An owner or admin sets **LinkedIn Ads** to **Allow** under **Admin → Connectors → Catalogue**.

Hebno requests these OAuth scopes:

| Scope | Why Hebno needs it |
| - | - |
| `r_ads` | Read ad accounts, campaign groups, campaigns and creatives you have a role on |
| `r_ads_reporting` | Read campaign analytics and demographic breakdowns |
| `openid`, `profile`, `email` | Identify the LinkedIn account you connect |

Hebno never requests `rw_ads`, so it cannot create or change anything in your ad accounts.

## Connect LinkedIn Ads

**1. Start the connection**

Open **Settings → Connections**, find **LinkedIn Ads** under **Marketing and advertising** and select **Connect**. You can also select **Connect** from the prompt in a chat.

**2. Sign in to LinkedIn**

Sign in, review the access on the LinkedIn consent screen and select **Allow**.

**3. Return to Hebno**

The card shows **Connected** with your name and the number of ad accounts you have a role on.

Hebno reads with your own access, so you see only the ad accounts and campaigns your LinkedIn account has a role on. Tokens are encrypted at rest. LinkedIn requires you to sign in again once a year, and Hebno shows **Reconnect LinkedIn Ads** before that. Select **Disconnect** at any time, or ask an admin to revoke the connection under **Admin → Connectors → Connections**.

## What Hebno reads

| LinkedIn Ads object | Fields Hebno uses | Typical questions |
| - | - | - |
| **Ad account** | Account ID, name, currency, status, type, associated Page | "Which Contoso ad accounts can I see?" |
| **Campaign group** | Name, status, run schedule, total budget | "What is in the Contoso supplier recruitment group?" |
| **Campaign** | Name, status, objective, format, cost type, daily and total budget, schedule, targeting summary | "Which Contoso campaigns target procurement roles?" |
| **Creative** | Name, status, review status, ad text, headline, destination URL | "What copy is running in the supplier campaign?" |
| **Analytics** | Impressions, clicks, CTR, spend, average CPC and CPM, landing page clicks, conversions, leads, cost per lead, engagements, video views, by day, campaign or creative | "What did each lead cost in October?" |
| **Demographics** | The same metrics by company, job function, seniority, industry and country | "Which job functions clicked most on the Contoso campaign?" |

Reads are live. Hebno queries the LinkedIn Marketing API when a request needs it and states the date range and account currency behind each figure. Demographic figures are approximate: LinkedIn omits values below its privacy threshold and updates them a day or so after delivery, so Hebno says when a breakdown is partial. Only what a reply used is stored with the conversation as its sources.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Excerpts a reply uses, including spend and lead figures, become part of the conversation. Anyone you share the conversation with can read them.

## Hebno reads only

Hebno does not write to LinkedIn Ads. It never creates, edits, pauses or archives campaign groups, campaigns or creatives, changes budgets, bids or targeting, downloads lead form responses, or changes account roles and billing. To act on what Hebno finds, make the change in Campaign Manager.

## Link a project to an ad account

Linking marks which LinkedIn ad account belongs to a client engagement, so you can ask "how are the LinkedIn campaigns doing?" without naming the account.

1. Open the project and select **Brain**.
2. Under **Linked records**, select **Link record**, then **LinkedIn Ads**.
3. Search by ad account name or ID and select the account. To narrow the link, select the campaign groups that belong to the engagement.

In chats tagged to the project, Hebno starts with the linked ad account and campaign groups for any LinkedIn advertising question. See [Linked records](https://hebno.com/docs/projects/linked-records.md).

## Use LinkedIn Ads in chat

* **Attach**: open the **+** menu, choose **Sources → LinkedIn Ads**, and pick an ad account, a campaign group or a campaign. Or type `/` and choose **LinkedIn Ads**.

* **Ask**: name the client, campaign and period in your request. For example:

  > Summarise the Contoso supplier recruitment campaigns for October: spend, leads and cost per lead by campaign.

  > Which seniority levels and industries engaged most with the Contoso campaigns this quarter?

  > Compare CTR and cost per click for the two creatives in the supplier campaign, with the headline of each.

* **Research runs** show a **Checking LinkedIn Ads** step, with a chip for each ad account and campaign it read.

* **Agents** can read LinkedIn Ads on a schedule, for example a Monday summary of last week's spend and leads for each linked client account.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Fix |
| - | - |
| An ad account is missing from the list | You have no role on it. Ask an account manager to add you under **Manage access** in Campaign Manager. |
| Requests fail with **Not enough permissions to access** | Your role on the account was removed, or you did not approve `r_ads_reporting`. Ask for a role, then reconnect and approve every scope. |
| **Reconnect LinkedIn Ads** appears | The authorisation expired or was revoked in LinkedIn. Select **Connect** to authorise again. |
| A demographic breakdown is empty or partial | LinkedIn omits values below its privacy threshold. Widen the date range or ask for a broader breakdown such as country. |
| Figures differ from Campaign Manager | Check the date range, time zone and conversion settings. Campaign Manager reports in the account's time zone, and Hebno uses the same. |
| Requests fail with a throttling message | LinkedIn limits API calls each day. Wait and retry, or narrow the date range or the number of campaigns. |
