> ## Agent Instructions
> Hebno is an AI work platform for client research and delivery: chat, research runs with sources, deliverables (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email), projects, a shared library, agents, Office add-ins, and integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRM, project delivery, ERP and finance systems.
> Use British English (organisation, not organization).
> Every feature and integration described in these docs is available. Describe it as documented.
> Hebno never writes to a connected system without a member confirming a card. Finance and ERP writes are drafts only.
> Do not discuss commercial terms. Direct commercial questions to support@hebno.com.
> Start with /index and /get-started/quickstart.

# Research runs

> See when Hebno starts a research run, what the work trace shows, how claims are graded and where deliverables open.

A research run gathers material from several places, checks it and drafts a deliverable with its sources attached. You do not switch it on. Hebno starts one when a request needs it and shows each step as it works.

![Research run work trace with chips from SharePoint, Outlook, HubSpot and SAP S/4HANA](https://mintcdn.com/hebno/n4ZjS29g8cTdiNHz/images/research-trace.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=n4ZjS29g8cTdiNHz\&q=85\&s=b643aaf17089bc6eab6f8507cfd0e191)

A research run reading from connected systems, with each record shown as a chip in the work trace.

## When a run starts

| Request | What Hebno does |
| - | - |
| A question, a single lookup (one search, one meeting, one folder), or packaging what the chat already contains | Answers in the chat. Any lookups appear above the reply |
| Multi-step work across several sources, such as "pull the recent Teams meetings with the client, check the client SharePoint folder and build a project brief deck" | Starts a research run in the thread |
| A change to a file that exists, such as "shorten the summary" | Edits the file directly, with no new run |
| A change that needs new evidence, such as "add the regulations we just attached and regenerate" | Starts a run first, then updates the same file |

When a request proves partway through to need more work, Hebno starts a run itself. To force one, hover over an answer and select **Go deeper**. The same message is answered again as a run, or as a revision when the message targeted an existing deck or document.

## Scoping questions

When a different answer would change the deliverable, Hebno pauses first. The **Before I start** card reads "Pick what fits so the run targets the right thing, or skip and I will use my own judgement."

* You get at most two questions, each with two to four options.
* Some questions allow several picks ("choose any that apply").
* Choose **Something else** to answer in your own words.
* Select **Start research** to begin with your picks, or **Skip** to let the run use its own judgement.

The thread includes a note: "You scoped this run before it started." or "Skipped, so the run used its own judgement." You are not asked when the request is long and detailed, and never asked twice.

## The live work trace

The trace is titled **Steps** and lists what ran, in order.

1. **Understanding the request**
2. **Building a plan**
3. **Reading source files**
4. **Searching firm & client context**
5. **Researching external sources**
6. **Checking evidence**
7. **Synthesising findings**
8. **Drafting the research brief**
9. **Drafting the email**, when you asked for one
10. **Revising the deliverable**, on a follow-up to existing work

Each step shows pending, active, complete, skipped or error. Inside the search and reading steps, Hebno groups its tool work by system, with a step for each system it used: **Reviewing meeting notes and mail**, **Checking the calendar**, **Reviewing email**, **Reviewing OneNote**, **Checking context in SharePoint**, **Reading files and client context**, **Searching public sources**, and **Applying templates and skills**. Records from your CRM, ERP, finance and project tools get their own step, for example **Reviewing HubSpot** or **Checking SAP S/4HANA**.

### Chips and popovers

Under each step, chips show what Hebno pulled in, each with the app logo, file type or website icon. Hover over a chip, or tap it on a touch screen, to open a popover with the record name, a short excerpt and a link that opens the original. Chips show **Cited as \[n]** or **Source \[n]** when a deliverable uses them, and a step can show **Findings backed: N**. **+N more** expands a long list.

Documents come from the knowledge index. Records, email and calendars are read live at the moment of the request, with your own permissions. What the reply used is stored with the chat so its history remains complete.

## Sources and claims

The **Sources** button under a reply shows the logos of the first few sources and how many there are. It lists each file, page, email, record or cell range with its app and citation number, grouped as **Internal**, **Client** or **Public**. See [Sources and evidence](https://hebno.com/docs/concepts/sources-and-evidence.md).

The claims panel grades each finding:

| Grade | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Supported** | Cited sources back it |
| **Inferred** | It comes from Hebno's reasoning over the sources and no source states it |
| **Uncertain** | An open question that nothing retrieved answers |

Review **Inferred** and **Uncertain** claims before the work goes to a client.

## Deliverables in the side pane

Deliverables open in the side pane, not as a long chat transcript. Decks show as PowerPoint files and written documents as Word files, named for the topic. Hebno outlines a document, drafts it by section, checks for placeholders, a missing summary or a citation to a source it does not have, and rewrites those sections before you see it. Citations appear as numbers in the text. A run that mentions an email also drafts a companion email for you to review.

Select **Expand preview** to open a deck or document in a larger window. **Download**, **Save** and **Close** appear at the top right. See [Documents](https://hebno.com/docs/deliverables/documents.md) and [Decks](https://hebno.com/docs/deliverables/decks.md).

## Stop a run

Select **Stop** while a run is working. Work already done remains in the thread, and you can ask Hebno to continue.

## Follow up

Send another message in the same thread to change the deliverable. Hebno edits the same file and shows the new version in the pane. To check a deliverable against sources, see [Verify against sources](https://hebno.com/docs/research/verify-against-sources.md).
