> ## Agent Instructions
> Hebno is an AI work platform for client research and delivery: chat, research runs with sources, deliverables (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email), projects, a shared library, agents, Office add-ins, and integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CRM, project delivery, ERP and finance systems.
> Use British English (organisation, not organization).
> Every feature and integration described in these docs is available. Describe it as documented.

# Verify against sources

> Check a deck or document against its sources, see what is backed, and re-check after edits.

Verify against sources runs a research pass over a finished deck or document. It gathers evidence, corrects what the sources contradict, adds citations and updates the same file.

## Read the status

A shield at the top of the side pane shows what backs the open brief or deck.

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **From this conversation, not checked against sources** | Hebno built the file from what the chat already contains. Shown in a warning colour |
| **Checked against 1 source** or **Checked against N sources** | A research run gathered sources and drafted or checked the file. Shown in a success colour |
| **Edited since sources were checked** | Someone changed the file after the check |

## Verify a deliverable

**1. Open the deliverable**

Open the deck or document in the side pane.

**2. Select the button**

Choose **Verify against sources** when the file is unchecked or edited. Choose **Check again** when it is already checked.

**3. Watch the run**

Hebno posts **Check "file name" against sources** in the chat and starts a research run on that file. The work trace shows each system it reads. See [Research runs](https://hebno.com/docs/research/research-runs.md).

**4. Review the result**

The status changes to **Checked against N sources** and the claims panel updates.

## What it changes

The run edits the file you checked. It does not create a second copy.

* It corrects statements that the sources contradict.
* It adds citation numbers where a source supports a statement.
* It marks claims **Supported**, **Inferred** or **Uncertain**.
* It leaves unchanged the parts of the file that the sources do not touch.

A figure with no source remains **Uncertain**. Hebno flags it and does not invent a citation. Open the claim, then add a source or edit the sentence.

## Where the evidence comes from

The run searches the same places a research run does: the project's files and linked sources, connected systems you have access to, and the open web. It reads connected systems live with your own permissions, so a source you cannot open in the other system is not used. Web search never returns or cites a blocked source.

Each record used appears as a chip in the work trace and in the **Sources** button, with a link back to the original. Anyone the chat is shared with can read the excerpts the run used.

## Verify in a shared chat

Owners and collaborators can start a check. A viewer can read the status and the claims, and cannot start the run. See [Share a chat](https://hebno.com/docs/chat/share-a-chat.md).

## When to check again

Check again after you edit a checked file, after you attach new material, or when the project's linked sources have changed. Edits made in the editor move the status to **Edited since sources were checked**, so the shield shows when a file has drifted from its evidence.

> [!TIP]
>
> Verify before a file leaves the building. A reviewer can then open the
> **Sources** button and the claims panel instead of re-reading every
> source.

Decks and documents differ in how sources appear. Documents contain numbered citations in the text, and an export appends a Sources section. Decks show their evidence in the status and the chat's sources, not in numbered callouts on each slide.
