Custom instructions and memory shape how Hebno responds to you in every chat. Instructions are text you write. Memory is a short list of facts about you that Hebno saves as you chat. Both are under Settings → Chat preferences.

Custom instructions

Custom instructions load into every chat you start, so replies match your role, tone and habits without repeating yourself.
1

Open the setting

Go to Settings → Chat preferences.
2

Write your instructions

Enter them in the Custom instructions / memory box. Short, specific lines work best, such as “I am a senior consultant in procurement. Use British English. Lead with the recommendation.”
3

Save

Select Save instructions.
Your instructions apply to your chats only. Instructions at other levels layer on top of them:

Memory

When memory is on, Hebno saves durable facts about you after a reply: your role, your areas of expertise, stable preferences and ongoing projects. Each memory is one short sentence, and each member can hold up to 100. Hebno does not save task details or one-off requests. If you say something that contradicts a saved fact, Hebno updates or removes that memory. Saved memories are included in later chats so replies start with the right context.

What you can do

Clearing all memories permanently deletes everything Hebno has remembered about you, and future chats start fresh. When nothing is saved, the list reads “Nothing saved yet. Memories appear here as you chat.”
Put standing preferences in custom instructions and let memory collect the rest. Instructions are exact and always apply. Memory is inferred from your chats.

Organisation memory policy

Admins control memory for the whole organisation under Admin → Organisation brain → Chat memory with the Allow chat memory switch. Memory is used only when both the organisation setting and your own setting are on. If an admin turns the policy off, your saved memories are hidden rather than deleted, and they return if the policy is turned back on. Your memories belong to you: admins can set the policy but cannot read your list.
